Africa is Second Largest Cell Phone Market

Africa is now the second largest market in the world with over 600 million subscribers.

Light, mobile technology is allowing swathes of Africa to essentially skip entire stages of development and avoid tons of infrastructure and overhead.
Could this be a good thing?

Cellphone banking will lift millions in the 3rd world out of abject poverty. Families can send money. Businesses can order products. A tailor in a rural village can order needles and thread. This is a huge step up for people who have never had access to a bank before.

      And like I said:
Think of all that high maintenance infrastructure they’ve been able to skip while moving from subsistence agriculture straight to cell phones.

Might this lack of baggage make them more of a market force than we’d normally anticipate?

Sort of like a kid that gets his first smart phone while he’s young as opposed to his grandparents.

Africans are very gregarious and like to socialize. Its only to be expected that they would become heavy cell phone users.
