Will the Euro Be Stronger Once ‘Weaker’ Nations Leave?

“There’s clearly a need for a euro, but I think some of the weaker countries will bite the bullet and exit the euro,” Mr. Wainstein said. “I cannot see how they can’t avoid doing that.”…

The euro-zone crisis has benefited Germany, the region’s largest economy, he said. It has enjoyed the advantages of the weak euro and low interest rates, and also been able to exert greater influence on the region’s fiscal policy, Mr. Wainstein said.

Meanwhile, countries like Greece that will depart the euro will face a “tremendous amount of pain” when it leaves the euro zone, but Mr. Wainstein expects its economy to be stimulated after its domestic currency goes through a major devaluation.”
