Best Movie Swordfight of All Time?

No flashy laser swords.

No shaky cam in the middle of the fight.

No background music.
Just the sounds of breathing, the guttering of torches in a cavernous hall.

Both guys staring each other down, faking each other out, engaging in psychological warfare as much as physical.

Movie Swordfights nominated by commenters:

Final fight in Robin Hood:
Errol Flynn as Robin Hood, Basil Rathbone as Sir Guy.

Rob Roy is ‘good’, but not in the same class as “The Duelist”, which i’ve required students to watch/learn in advanced classes teaching the use of a variety of sword types. In terms of ‘real sword fighting’, it’s hands-down the best around, particularly in sabres, which is a very difficult sword to use effectively, {for any length of time, in real life: shown very realistically in “Duelist”} and *rarely* shown…

Awesome movie! Sooooooo much better than Braveheart.

But neither of these two brilliant actors, Liam Neeson and Tim Roth, is an accomplished swordsman. Not in the true sense of the word.

BASIL RATHBONE!!!!! Arguably the greatest swordsman to collect his pay as an actor!

See him fight Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood.

See him fight Tyrone Power in The Mark of Zorro (and of whom Rathbone said, “Tyrone Power could fence Errol Flynn into a cocked hat!”).

You like swordsmanship? Basil is your dude.
